Superhero prize on offer for comic creators

FANCY a private screening of the eagerly awaited Avengers movie for up to 200 of your friends and family? Then you’d better get your skates on! You have until midnight tomorrow to create your own financial literacy comic – and be in with a chance of scooping the prize.

The competition, open to those aged 13 years and over, is part of a financial literacy campaign designed to introduce children to basic money concepts.

More than 600 pupils at Al Dhafra School have been given a free copy of a new comic book, Avengers: Saving the Day, created by a team of Marvel storytellers and featuring some of the world’s most popular superheroes including Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man, Hulk and, of course, the Avengers.

The collectors’ item, which is available in English and Arabic and also features a new cover, has a fast-moving plot told over 16 pages revolving around Spider-Man and the Avengers learning about personal finance, while battling the evil Mole Man during an attempted heist.

Marvel editor Bill Rosemann says: “A wise man once said that with great power there must come great responsibility and that certainly applies to managing your finances.

“In an uncertain world, understanding how to save and properly budget your hard-earned money is one of the keys to personal success.

“The Avengers are not only the world’s greatest heroes, but they also know a thing or three about financial health. After all, Iron Man hasn’t managed his vast wealth of Stark Enterprises by accident, and as Spider-Man learns, you don’t have to be a millionaire to be a saving hero.”

Check out the new comic book! Want to create your own comic book on how to handle money, save and plan for the future? Budding graphic artists can upload their creations online at the MyMoneySkills Facebook page. Go on – be a saving superhero!
